The Tata Sierra is set to return to showrooms in an all-new avatar soon, and it will be available in ICE and EV guises

The all-new Tata Sierra launch is just around the corner, and there’s quite a buzz surrounding its feature set, which is said to include several segment-firsts. Word out in the media is that one of its exclusives will be two different seating layouts.

Reports say Tata Motors is developing the all-new Sierra to offer much greater comfort than all its rivals. Most configurations should feature a regular seating layout that accommodates two adults in the front and three in the back. In at least one configuration, though, the company will likely give a lounge-inspired seating layout with two seats in both rows.

The premium configuration should allow rear-seat passengers to travel in more comfort with special seats that are wider and can both recline and slide. These seats may also include an extendable leg support, a feature unheard of in this segment in our market.

Tata Motors could offer fold-out tray tables, inner-side individual armrests, and dedicated entertainment displays to further elevate the experience for the rear-seat passengers. Neither Maruti Suzuki nor Hyundai has addressed Indian customers’ long-standing preference for chauffeur-driven comfort to this extent.

The all-new Tata Sierra will be available with three dashboard screens, something none of its rivals include in their feature mix. Its top-end trim will feature a digital instrument cluster on the driver’s side, a central touchscreen, and a passenger touchscreen. The third display should allow the front passenger to control the music system, operate the navigation system, stream videos, and play games.

Tata Motors will likely launch the next-gen Sierra in November with three engine options: 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol, and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel. The company should offer at least one automatic transmission option.

About a month later, Tata Motors will drive in the first-ever Sierra.ev based on the all-new Sierra. The Sierra.ev will likely be available in single-motor FWD and dual-motor AWD variants. The AWD capability, would be a segment-first in case of electric models in this segment. Another capability expected to be exclusive to the Sierra.ev is vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging, allowing customers to power external equipment using battery power during outages and for their lifestyle needs.
