A few years after global automakers, Indian brands hop on the triple-display trend, a move that young, tech-savvy customers will particularly appreciate

While central touchscreens and digital instrument clusters have become the new normal, dedicated passenger displays are the new talk of the town in the world of modern cars. Triple-screen is a trending new layout for car interiors, and India will get at least two new models embracing this look by next year: the Tata Sierra and the new Mahindra XUV 700.

After a two-decade hiatus, the Tata Sierra, India’s first SUV, is set to return to showrooms. Filling the whitespace between the Tata Nexon and Tata Harrier, the new model will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the Renault Duster. Its squarish shape and unique design elements inspired by the original Tata Sierra will set it apart from its rivals, but it won’t be distinctive just on the outside.

Spy shots have revealed that unlike any of its competitors, the Tata Sierra will feature three dashboard displays. It will have a digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen, and a passenger touchscreen, all laid separately with a noticeable gap between them.

The second touchscreen in the Tata Sierra will likely allow the front passenger to assist the driver by operating the navigation or selecting the media service. The front passenger may also get to enjoy streaming videos, TV series, and movies on the go. A special film applied on this display should ensure it does not distract the driver.

Tata Motors has said it will launch the all-new Sierra between October this year and March next year. While it has yet to reveal a more specific timeline, a Q4 2025 launch is widely expected. The company will offer its Hyundai Creta rival in ICE and electric variants.

Mahindra started adopting a triple-display setup beginning with the XEV 9e in March. Spy shots suggest the company may integrate this look into the XUV700 with the facelift next year. It may use a 12.3-inch display for the digital instrument cluster, central touchscreen, and passenger touchscreen. The passenger touchscreen should allow playing games, streaming videos, TV series, and movies, conducting video calls, and operating the navigation. The new XUV700 is expected to be launched sometime in 2026.
