Tata Motors had another bad month in terms of sales due to the typical low demand in the monsoon season
Like July 2025, August 2025 wasn’t a great month for Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle business. The company once again recorded a marginal decline in passenger car sales, but similarly, electric models continued to shine.
Tata Motors sold 41,001 passenger cars in August 2025, which marked a year-over-year decline of 7%. For reference, the company had delivered 3,141 more passenger cars in August 2024, totalling 44,142 units.
While Tata Motors saw a dip in the domestic market, overseas shipments have significantly improved over the last year, though they still have a minuscule contribution to its passenger car business. Compared to 344 units in August 2024, the company exported 2,314 units in August 2025. This means the company’s international deliveries recorded a whopping 573% year-over-year growth last month.

Including domestic sales and exports, Tata Motors shipped a total of 43,315 passenger cars in August 2025. Compared to August 2024, it moved just 1,171 fewer cars, translating to a small year-over-year decline of 3%. Tata Motors offers the widest line-up of locally manufactured electric cars in India, comprising the Tiago.ev, Tigor.ev, XPress-T EV, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, and Harrier.ev. The company’s EV business is thriving, with 8,540 units delivered in August 2025.
Compared to the same month last year, the company shipped 2,605 more electric cars, which converts to an impressive 44% year-over-year growth. The company has just begun the deliveries of the Harrier.ev, for which it received 10,000 bookings on the very first day. Thus, as production normalises, sales of this model could significantly increase.

Tata Motors has an exciting roadmap for the final quarter of the year, which could help it significantly improve sales and finish the calendar year in the green. In October, right in the peak of India’s festive season, the homegrown automaker plans to launch a facelifted version of its best-selling model – the Punch.
Not long after the new Punch, the company will expand its electric car line-up with the first-ever Sierra.ev. An all-new ICE Sierra will follow in quick succession, giving strong competition to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the Honda Elevate.
