Tata Motors Inks MoU with GEMS to Supply 100 Magna Electric Intercity Buses
Tata Motors has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Energy Mobility Solutions (GEMS) for the supply of 100 Magna electric intercity buses, reinforcing its leadership in India’s commercial electric vehicle (EV) sector. The agreement was announced at the Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0 held in Chennai.
GEMS, a next-gen EV Mobility Ecosystem enterprise promoted by the founders of Universal Bus Services (UBS)—a well-established intercity travel brand in South India—will integrate the newly procured Tata Magna electric coaches into its premium travel fleet. This strategic move aligns with GEMS’ vision to modernize and electrify its intercity offerings across the region.
The Tata Magna EV coach is engineered for long-distance operations, offering a robust range of up to 300 km on a single charge. Its 44-seater configuration ensures a blend of high passenger capacity and enhanced comfort, making it an ideal solution for intercity commutes while contributing to sustainable transportation goals.
This collaboration represents a significant step in India’s clean mobility transition, particularly in the intercity transport segment. It highlights a growing trend among fleet operators to shift toward electric solutions, aiming to reduce emissions, lower operating costs, and modernize travel experiences for passengers.
As the Indian EV ecosystem continues to evolve rapidly, such partnerships are expected to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly transit solutions and set a precedent for future fleet modernization across the country.
