Sasha Banks is an American professional wrestler, signed to All Elite Wrestling under the ring name Mercedes Moné. She is a former one-time AEW TBS Champion and holds the record for the longest reign with that title. She also appears for AEW partner promotions Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, along with independent promotions. She is the only woman to have won championships in WWE, AEW, NJPW, and CMLL.

She became widely known during her time in WWE from 2012 to 2022, where she competed under the name Sasha Banks. Her wrestling career began in 2010 on the independent circuit, mainly with Chaotic Wrestling, where she won the Chaotic Wrestling Women’s Championship. She signed with WWE in 2012 and was assigned to NXT, where she later won the NXT Women’s Championship.

Her match against Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Respect in October 2015 made history. It was the first women’s match to headline an NXT TakeOver, the first Iron Woman match in WWE, and at the time the longest women’s match in WWE history, lasting 30 minutes. The match was named Match of the Year by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, and she was also named Woman of the Year.

In 2016, Sasha Banks won her first WWE Women’s Championship. After being drafted to the Raw brand in the 2016 WWE Draft on July 19, she made her first Raw appearance on July 25. On that night, she defeated Charlotte to win the WWE Women’s Championship for the first time in her career.

Her title reign lasted 27 days. On August 21, 2016, at SummerSlam, she lost the championship back to Charlotte. Around the same period, the title was renamed the Raw Women’s Championship after the SmackDown Women’s Championship was introduced.

Sasha Banks’ most famous and final world championship win came during her feud with Bayley in 2020. On the September 4 episode of SmackDown, after Banks and Bayley lost a rematch to Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, Bayley turned on Banks and attacked her in the ring. This ended their partnership and turned Banks into a fan favorite.

Their rivalry led to a Hell in a Cell match at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, where Banks made Bayley submit to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time in her career. With this victory, Banks became the third Women’s Grand Slam Champion and the fourth Women’s Triple Crown Champion in WWE.

On November 6, Banks defeated Bayley in a title rematch on SmackDown and successfully retained the championship. This win ended her long run of failing to defend a singles title on the main roster. On April 9, WWE announced that Banks vs Belair would main-event Night 1 of WrestleMania 37, making history as the first WrestleMania main event contested by two African-American women.

At WrestleMania 37, Banks lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Bianca Belair. Her title reign ended at 167 days, marking this as her final world championship reign in WWE.
