River Indie Crosses 7,000 Sales Milestone, Secures Strategic Partnership with Yamaha
Bengaluru-based electric mobility startup River Mobility has announced a major milestone, having sold over 7,000 units of its flagship electric scooter, the River Indie. The company’s consistent growth in the electric two-wheeler segment was highlighted by a sharp 77% year-on-year sales increase in 2025, with a record 1,000 units sold in March alone. This performance marks a significant breakthrough for a relatively young player in India’s highly competitive EV market.
A key development further boosting River’s growth trajectory is its strategic partnership with Yamaha, a globally renowned name in two-wheelers. Yamaha has invested $40 million into River as part of a collaborative effort to co-develop a new high-performance electric scooter aimed at both Indian and international markets. This partnership signals strong confidence in River’s engineering and design capabilities and underlines the growing interest of legacy manufacturers in India’s thriving EV ecosystem.
The River Indie, known for its rugged design, powerful performance, and utility-first approach, has been widely appreciated for redefining what an electric scooter can offer in terms of everyday practicality. With large under-seat storage, robust build quality, and urban-friendly dynamics, the Indie appeals to both tech-savvy youth and professionals alike.
Looking ahead, River has ambitious expansion plans. The company aims to scale operations to over 100 Indian cities by 2026, targeting both tier-1 and tier-2 markets. With enhanced production capacity and distribution networks, River is laying the groundwork to become a household name in the electric mobility space.
The River-Yamaha alliance, backed by cutting-edge R&D and global market insights, is expected to accelerate innovation in EV design and performance. As Indian consumers demand more robust, stylish, and affordable electric two-wheelers, River is well-positioned to bridge that gap with future-ready solutions.
In an industry rapidly moving toward electrification, River Mobility’s rise reflects both the maturing of India’s EV startup ecosystem and the strategic collaborations that will define its next phase of growth.
