While the petrol cars contributed to 65.2 percent, CNG vehicles demand was at an all-time high with 33.6 percent of sales coming from it
Maruti Suzuki ended the FY25 on a new high with over 33 percent of its overall sales coming from CNG-powered vehicles in the domestic market. These numbers indicate that every third car sold by the brand was a CNG model. The company sold a total of 17,60,765 cars during the last fiscal, out of which the volumes of petrol, CNG and hybrid models stood at 11,48,363, 5,91,730, and 20,672 units, respectively. While the petrol cars contributed to 65.2 percent, CNG vehicles demand was at an all-time high with 33.6 percent of sales coming from it. Just so you know, Maruti Suzuki does not retail diesel vehicles in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki discontinued its diesel range of cars nearly five years in April 2020 from the domestic market in India. Since then, it has been focusing on alternate fuels such as CNG and hybrid to woo the buyers. Going by the sales numbers of CNG cars, it appears that the customers too have responded quite well to Maruti’s approach of introducing CNG models.
Presently, Maruti Suzuki dominates the CNG segment in India by owning more than 70 percent of market share. It is quite apparent that while Tour (taxi) models mostly contribute to the CNG sales, personal buyers too have drifted towards CNG fuel in recent times as it is affordable, fuel efficient and environment friendly as compared to the petrol and diesel ones.
