New Nissan Midsize SUV

The all-new Nissan midsize SUV is expected to go on sale next fiscal in India and it will have a lot in common with the forthcoming Duster

It is no secret that Nissan has been working on a new strategy to introduce as many as four models in India. A sub-four-metre MPV will be the first to arrive early next year and it will be followed by a C-segment SUV and its seven-seater sibling. While the MPV will be based on the same architecture as the recently facelifted Renault Triber, the all-new SUV will have several commonalities with the upcoming Renault Duster.

The C-SUV will compete with a host of midsize SUVs including Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. It has been spotted testing in India for the first time and the design stays in line with the teasers the brand released a while ago.

It will act as a spiritual successor to the Terrano and will help strengthen the brand’s portfolio which currently comprises only the Magnite in the volume space. The spy images indicate the existence of an upright front fascia. While most of the design details are hidden under the camouflage, the star-shaped black alloy wheels, prominent squared-off wheel arches, a boxy rear end with integrated spoiler, shark fin antenna and high-mounted stop lamp can be clearly seen.

The raked front windshield, tall pillars and slightly sloping roofline ensure a large greenhouse. The front profile will feature sleek LED headlamps and C-shaped air inlets on either side of the bumper. It will also get a front skid plate and a chunky rear bumper along with rectangular-shaped LED tail lamps.

The all-new five-seater will likely be underpinned by the CMF-B+ platform which is said to be heavily localised for domestic production. A hybrid powertrain is also a possibility, however, initially, it could be available only with small capacity petrol engines. Both manual and automatic transmission options will help expand the range and appeal to a wide range of buyers.

The Japanese automaker, despite global turmoil, is working to bring in new products locally and the upcoming range could be exported to overseas markets as well.
