The final production version of the next-gen Toyota Corolla is expected to make its way to international markets by late 2026

Toyota has given the world a glimpse of the future with the reveal of the next-generation Corolla concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. For a car that’s been a global best-seller for decades, the new iteration indicates a complete rethink of what the Corolla stands for in the age of electrification. On the outside, the concept moves away from the safe and familiar lines that have long defined the Corolla.

In their place stands a low-slung body that looks sportier. Up front, a full-width LED light bar and sleek headlights merge into a sculpted fascia inspired by Toyota’s latest “hammerhead” design theme. The sharply raked windscreen flows into a coupe-like roofline while a subtle ducktail spoiler and continuous LED strip at the rear give it a futuristic stance.

The wider track and shorter overhangs add to its planted appeal. While the design grabs attention, the underpinnings project an equally interesting pathway. The new Corolla will continue to sit on Toyota’s TNGA architecture which is heavily revised for improved rigidity and lower weight. It is said to enhance ride quality while also being capable of accommodating multiple powertrains.

Next-Gen-Toyota-Corolla-1-1.jpgInstead of relying on a single drivetrain direction, the brand is developing a broad lineup to suit different global demands. Expect everything from a strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid to a traditional ICE option for emerging markets. However, the centrepiece will be the all-electric version which is expected to use a reworked e-TNGA setup.

Reports suggest it could be offered with two battery choices – a 63 kWh unit and a larger 78 kWh pack with the latter capable of delivering an EPA estimated range of up to 310 miles (nearly 500 km) between charges. On the inside, the dashboard is kept minimal featuring a large floating touchscreen and a fully digital instrument cluster.

The cabin uses sustainable materials and expect the latest iteration of Toyota Safety Sense with a host of ADAS features including adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist and pre-collision systems to be offered. The final production version is expected to make its way to international markets by late 2026 with launch timings differing across key regions like Japan, North America, and Europe.

Considering the modest reception for sedans in India in recent years, Toyota may not bring the next-gen model but nothing is set on stone yet. Toyota hasn’t revealed detailed specifications or the possible price range while the final powertrain figures remain under the curtain.
