Mahindra Thar Roxx is expected to get a mild facelift or a special edition sooner rather than later in India judging by the teaser
Recently, Mahindra introduced the XUV 7XO which is the rebranded and more premium version of the XUV 700 while the XUV 3XO made its market debut. With a few weeks of the new year, Mahindra appears to be bringing in another new model. Judging by the official teaser, we can confirm a few details but we will have to wait and see what Mahindra really has in store.
The homegrown manufacturer has often been spotted testing the updated three-door Thar taking design inspiration from the Thar Roxx. The prototypes were caught multiple times in 2025 but it turned out to be a rather subtle update for the three-door model. However, the teaser can be deciphered to be of the five-door Thar – eliminating the speculation of a new three-door Thar.
Instead, we expect it to be a mild cosmetic enhancement for the Thar Roxx. The teaser confirms that the SUV is indeed the bigger Thar when viewed from the sides. In addition to being a visual enhancement, it could very well be a special edition. It is keeping in mind the good reception for the dark-themed limited editions with restricted production numbers within Mahindra’s lineup.
The teaser carries the line “The spotlight has found its star,” a phrase that appears to hint at the same rather than a comprehensive facelift. It suggest that Mahindra could be preparing to add a new variant or a limited-spec model. Such a version could follow Mahindra’s familiar approach seen with earlier black editions featuring a darker exterior colour scheme, blacked-out detailing and exclusive badging.
Interior updates, if any, are expected to be modest, potentially including revised seat upholstery, unique trim finishes or special edition garnishes while the overall cabin layout and feature set remain unchanged. Alternatively, the teaser could be pointing towards a mild facelift planned for 2026. In this scenario, updates are likely to be limited to an updated infotainment system, refreshed interior materials and minor exterior tweaks.
Irrespective of the direction Mahindra takes, mechanical changes are unlikely, with the SUV expected to continue with its existing engine and transmission options. However, the 1.5L diesel engine currently in the three-door Thar cannot be completely ruled out for the upcoming Roxx either.
