New Mahindra Bolero Rendering

New Mahindra Bolero is expected to go on sale in the coming months with an assortment of revisions inside and out

The new generation Mahindra Bolero (or Bolero Neo as it might be pitched as) has regularly been spotted testing on public roads in recent weeks, sparking rumours about its potential debut in August. But the brand confirmed a while ago that only a new platform is being readied to be unveiled on Independence Day as we expect more details to emerge in the weeks leading up to the event.

It is clear that the forthcoming SUV will be more upmarket than the existing Bolero and perhaps Mahindra will use a different suffix? Considering the consistent sales numbers for the MUV for over two decades, it will mostly be certain that it will continue to be offered alongside in dealerships. As we previously pointed out, the all-new Bolero will give the traditional monocoque midsize SUVs a run for their money.

It is expected to move to the NFA (New Flexible Architecture) platform which will underpin a slew of future Mahindra SUVs. For the first time in its history, the Bolero nameplate could gain a panoramic sunroof and several features will be shared with the Scorpio N and probably XUV 700 too. For instance, a semi-digital instrument console lifted from the Scorpio N.

Underneath the heavy wrap, a few visible changes point toward a more evolved design language. It will boast flush-mounted door handles while the front features circular projector-style headlamps tucked into a reworked fascia. The grille follows a multi-slat layout and LED DRLs now sit lower on the bumper while a set of new multi-spoke alloy wheels and thick black cladding can also be seen.

The interior enhancements are expected to push the model far beyond its utilitarian roots. Key features likely to make the list are six airbags, a larger infotainment display, multifunctional steering wheel with mounted controls, automatic climate control, height adjustable driver seat, more premium dashboard and even a suite of ADAS technology.

At present, the MUV draws power from a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit delivering around 99 bhp, mated to a manual transmission. In its new-gen form, Mahindra will more likely equip it with the more advanced 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel mill already seen in the Thar 3-door and the XUV 3XO with higher power and torque outputs.
