Citroen Basalt X gets an intelligent in-car assistant along with cabin updates including the addition of new features
Citroen India has introduced the new Basalt X range with prices starting from Rs. 7.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets a host of updates including a revised interior and CARA, an intelligent in-car assistant developed locally for global use. The range-topping Basalt X, which start at Rs. 12.89 lakh, will go on sale ahead of the festive season with customer deliveries scheduled to begin around that time.
Alongside its familiar coupe-SUV stance, the French manufacturer has added premium touches such as soft-touch leatherette trim with gold accents, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and a 26 cm bezel-less touchscreen with a similar-sized digital driver display. As for safety, it gains six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat mounts, hill-hold assist and a perimetric alarm.
All these safety features are offered as standard across the lineup while a 360-degree camera system with seven viewing modes and cruise control with a speed limiter also find their way into the package. Under the hood, Citroen continues to sell the Basalt with two petrol engines. The 1.2L turbo unit produces a maximum power output of 110 PS and 205 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the naturally aspirated 1.2L unit is also available. The transmission options are a five-speed MT, a six-speed MT and a six-speed torque converter AT. The real talking point, however, is CARA. Billed as India’s first intelligent in-car companion, CARA goes well beyond the usual voice command systems. It understands tone and context – for instance, a driver saying “I’m tired” could trigger a rest-stop suggestion.
It integrates deeply with the car, monitoring tyre pressure, controlling functions like AC or door locks while also handling navigation, calls, reminders and music. It even provides real-time updates on flights, stock markets, weather and cricket scores. More importantly, safety bits are handled too with voice-triggered SOS, emergency alerts and crash response.
Supporting 52 Indian and international languages, it can even switch mid-conversation. CARA is offered complimentary on MAX Automatic variant which is limited to initial bookings. The 360-degree camera costs Rs. 25,000 (Axs. Pack) and the dual-tone roof optional at Rs. 21,000. On the outside, the Basalt X continues to get a piano-black grille with dual chevrons, LED projector headlights, 3D-effect tail lamps and diamond-cut alloys and features a high ground clearance of 180 mm. Commenting on the new launch, Shailesh Hazela, CEO & MD, Stellantis India, said,
“India is at the heart of Stellantis’ global vision, and today’s launch marks a defining moment for Citroën India 2.0 – Shift Into the New in the country. With the Basalt X, we are proud to introduce CARA, India’s first intelligent in-car companion—conceived, engineered, and launched in India. Basalt X Range is a bold step forward, strengthening our portfolio with exclusivity and comfort. These innovations are part of our long-term shift to make mobility more connected, more human, and more aspirational.”
