The Ather EL platform has been engineered using insights gathered from over 26 lakh km of field data and introduces a new chassis, powertrain and electronics package
Ather Energy has taken the wraps off its next-generation scooter platform, codenamed EL, at the third edition of Ather Community Day 2025. It is the company’s first all-new vehicle architecture since the 450 and is designed with scalability, versatility and cost efficiency in mind according to the brand. It says the EL platform will serve as the foundation for an entirely new generation of scooters across multiple categories.
The EL platform has been engineered using insights gathered from over 26 lakh km of field data and introduces a new chassis, powertrain and electronics package. By reducing component count and simplifying assembly, it enables production to be 15 per cent faster while also allowing up to two times quicker periodic services. Service intervals have been stretched to 10,000 km, making ownership more convenient.
Safety sees a boost with the addition of the Advanced Electronic Braking System that shortens stopping distances and reduces the risk of rear-wheel lockup, while convenience is enhanced by the Charge Drive Controller which integrates the motor controller and on-board charger. The event also saw the debut of Redux, a concept moto-scooter showcasing Ather’s vision for the future of performance.
Featuring lightweight aluminium construction, advanced materials such as AmplyTex, a 3D-printed lattice seat, adaptive ride dynamics and Morph-UI that changes based on riding conditions, Redux blends scooter agility with motorcycle dynamics. It even introduces a new high-performance feature called Take Off – designed for instantaneous acceleration. AtherStack 7.0, the latest version of the company’s software suite, was another highlight.
It brings voice interaction powered by a large language model tuned for Indian dialects, allowing riders to engage in natural conversations with their scooters. Features include live location sharing, tyre pressure updates, crash alerts and pothole alerts based on nationwide fleet data. Safety has been further strengthened with ParkSafe and LockSafe features that provide theft and parking security, along with expanded remote controls for charging and vehicle shutdown. The new update will be rolled out over the air to existing Rizta Z and 450X (Gen 3 onwards) customers.
Ather’s HALO smart helmet also receives updates such as new colours, anti-fog visor compatibility, emergency pull-out padding and USB-C charging. Integration with AtherStack’s new voice features ensures a seamless experience. On the features front, the company introduced Infinite Cruise, its own take on cruise control tailored to Indian roads.
It offers three modes: CityCruise for adapting speed seamlessly in traffic or highways up to 90 km/h, Hill Control for climbing and descending slopes using regenerative braking, and Crawl Control for low-speed manoeuvring on rough surfaces. The system will debut on the 2025 Ather 450 Apex. The Rizta Z family scooter has also been updated. Existing customers will soon receive over-the-air updates unlocking its touchscreen dashboard, a refreshed user interface and a new Eco Mode. A new Terracotta Red paint option with a super-matte finish has also been added.
Finally, Ather revealed its next-generation 6 kW fast charger, which is half the size of the current unit yet delivers double the speed. On select variants, it can add 30 km of range in just 10 minutes. Some charging stations will also include integrated tyre inflators for added convenience. With the LECCS charging standard now being adopted by 10 partners including Hero Vida, Matter and charging network operators like Bolt and Kazam, interoperability across the EV ecosystem is also gaining momentum.
