Suzuki Motor Corporation, Maruti Suzuki’s parent company, has announced plans to launch 8 new SUV models by 2030 in the Indian market. Speaking on the sidelines of the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki Motor Corporation stated that the brand will invest approx. Rs 70,000 crore in India by FY 2030-31. The company aims to have a market share of 50 percent in the passenger vehicle (PV) segment in India while also intending to become the biggest EV brand in the country.
During a media roundtable, Toshihiro Suzuki confirmed Suzuki’s long-term commitment to the Indian market while shedding light on the upcoming Maruti cars launches in India. He stated that India is the company’s “most critical market” and without revealing names, indicated that diverse models across different segments will be introduced in the Indian market.
With the launch of 8 new SUVs in the next 5-6 years, Maruti Suzuki will have a total of 28 models in its portfolio in India. The SUV segment has witnessed an unprecedented growth in the last five years in India as it accounts for more than 50 percent of the total vehicles sold in the country. “Till FY 2030-31, we have planned an investment of Rs 70,000 crore towards capital investment for India,” said Suzuki.

We can expect the company to start its SUV onslaught by mid 2026 with the launch of the Fronx facelift with a strong hybrid powertrain, followed by a full sized seven-seater SUV by 2026 end. Though, reports indicate that a small affordable electric SUV is also under works, but nothing concrete on that model as of now.
Maruti Suzuki has also been exporting a record number of cars from India to various other markets. The export volumes have grown by 3.3 times in the last 5 years. In FY 2024-25 alone, the company exported 3.3 lakh vehicles to Europe and Japan, and this number is likely to touch 4 lakh units by the end of this fiscal year. Needless to mention, India is the biggest production hub for Suzuki in the entire world.

Suzuki also spoke on the company’s global carbon neutrality vision at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. Without divulging details, he said that Suzuki will try to adopt country-specific solutions which are available on the basis of local energy conditions. “Considering the regulatory requirements and carbon neutrality goals of each country we operate in, Suzuki will bring appropriate carbon-neutral technologies,” he said.
Maruti Suzuki presently retails a diverse range of powertrain choices in its cars in India such as petrol, CNG, mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid. It is expected to enter the electric vehicle segment in December with the launch of the e-Vitara, which is touted as its first indigenous locally manufactured battery electric vehicle (BEV). Though, it has already gone on sale in several markets with the made-in-India model exported from the brand’s Gujarat factory.

“It may not be practical to have only BEVs in the entire fleet. To achieve meaningful carbon reduction, we need to address the large number of non-BEV vehicles,” he said. Suzuki opined that a multi-pathway strategy is the solution to achieve impactful carbon reduction rather than following a one-size-fits-all BEV approach. Last but the not the least, Suzuki said that nine biogas plants will be established in Gujarat by 2027 by partnering with various dairy cooperatives like Banas, Amul and the National Dairy Development Board.
