Kane Williamson up for T20 WC: New Zealand has confirmed that five of their leading white-ball players have signed casual playing contracts to make sure they are available for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Seifert, and Kane Williamson have all agreed to the deal. The deal allows them to keep playing in franchise leagues while staying part of New Zealand’s high-performance system, with access to coaching, medical care, mental skills support, and training facilities.

This will make sure they participate in the T20I series leading up to the World Cup, such as against Australia, England, and the West Indies. The casual contract gives them access to the same services as full-time contracted players while allowing more flexibility. New Zealand Cricket CEO Scott Weenink said it was vital to secure these stars with the World Cup less than six months away, stressing that the players’ commitment shows how important representing the Black Caps is to them.

Kane Williamson to Miss Australia Series Under NZC Casual Playing Agreement

Williamson will not play in the upcoming T20I series against Australia but has committed to the 2026 T20 World Cup after signing a casual playing agreement with New Zealand Cricket. He is joined by Devon Conway, Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Seifert, who have also taken up these flexible contracts for the 2025–26 season. The five were not part of New Zealand’s central contracts list in June but remain within the high-performance system while being allowed to take franchise opportunities overseas.

Allen, Seifert, and Ferguson already have Big Bash League deals, while Williamson has been active in county cricket and franchise tournaments. NZC confirmed that casual agreement players must commit to the T20 World Cup campaign, including series against Australia, England, and the West Indies. Allen will miss the Australia series due to foot surgery, while Williamson has chosen to make himself unavailable. The squad for the Australia series will be announced later this week.
