Indian Railways and Indofast Energy Collaborate to Launch Battery Swapping Stations Across Hyderabad and Secunderabad Divisions

In a significant stride towards electrifying last-mile mobility and advancing sustainable transportation infrastructure, Indian Railways has joined hands with Indofast Energy to roll out a comprehensive network of battery swapping stations at major railway hubs across the Hyderabad and Secunderabad divisions. This visionary initiative is being spearheaded by South Central Railway (SCR), reaffirming Indian Railways’ commitment to supporting clean mobility solutions and strengthening its ecosystem.

80 Battery Swapping Stations Commissioned Across 25 Railway Stations

As part of this strategic collaboration, 80 battery swapping stations have already been commissioned across 25 railway stations in the twin divisions:

These stations are designed to serve electric two-wheelers (e-2Ws) and electric three-wheelers (e-3Ws), with the goal of enabling faster, cleaner, and more efficient commutes for thousands of daily users.

The infrastructure rollout does not stop here. An additional 40 swap stations are planned over the next three months, covering more stations and further strengthening the EV ecosystem across the region.

Empowering EV Users: Ride-Sharing, Delivery, and Daily Commuters

This public-private partnership targets a broad segment of EV users including:

  • Ride-sharing and gig economy drivers
  • Last-mile delivery agents
  • Daily commuters and local travelers

The convenient placement of these swap stations at busy railway hubs offers high accessibility and encourages faster EV adoption by ensuring that users are never far from a quick energy top-up point.

Indofast Energy: Powering the Future of Electric Mobility

Indofast Energy is a 50:50 joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and SUN Mobility, a leading battery swapping tech innovator. The company is aiming to deploy over 10,000 battery swapping stations across 40+ Indian cities within the next three years.

Commenting on this development, Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy, stated:

“This partnership with Indian Railways represents a milestone in India’s clean mobility journey. By integrating battery swapping infrastructure at transit hubs, we are not just improving access to energy for EV users but also supporting the nation’s broader electrification goals.”

Building a Greener, More Efficient Transport Future

This initiative aligns closely with India’s national priorities on sustainable development, clean energy adoption, and reducing urban pollution. Indian Railways’ move to leverage its widespread infrastructure for clean energy distribution underscores the potential of such institutional collaborations in transforming urban mobility.

With strong execution, wide reach, and commitment from all stakeholders, this partnership is expected to reshape the EV charging landscape in Telangana and set a template for similar rollouts nationwide.
