Genesis will target established players like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover and others upon arrival in India by 2027
Hyundai is set to make a decisive entry into India’s luxury car segment with its premium arm, Genesis, ending years of speculation about the brand’s arrival. Initial plans were delayed due to economic fluctuations and industry-wide disruptions but India’s growing appetite for high-end vehicles has pushed the company to fast track its arrival.
Genesis became an independent marque in 2015 quickly distinguishing itself from Hyundai’s mainstream offerings. The G90 sedan marked the beginning of the brand’s global journey, followed by the G80 and the GV70 and GV80 SUVs. In India, Genesis will target established players like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover, Lexus and Volvo.
The lineup is expected to include both ICE powered SUVs and fully electric models. The GV80 SUV will more likely spearhead the launch. A key part of the strategy is local assembly via the CKD route. Genesis’ arrival goes in line with Hyundai’s FY2030 roadmap which outlines 26 upcoming models in India, spanning new nameplates, full generational updates, facelifts and derivatives.
