Hyundai is planning a big product assault in the electric vehicle space as part of launching 26 new vehicles by FY30
Hyundai’s electric plans for India are starting to take shape. While the premium Ioniq 5 may have laid the early groundwork, it was the arrival of the Creta Electric earlier in 2025 that announced a transformation toward more accessible EVs. The upcoming lineup is set to be reinforced by a compact all-electric crossover currently known internally as HE1i.
Expected to reach showrooms in the latter half of 2026, the HE1i will more likely to sit on Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform – a cost-efficient architecture conceived for entry-level electric vehicles. It appears to be lined up to take on the Tata Punch EV, Citroen eC3, MG Comet EV and Mahindra’s upcoming XUV 3XO EV. While final specs and design are still under wraps, the project outlines Hyundai’s intent to secure a foothold in the mass-market EV race rather than just dabble in niche segments.
Pricing will be key. If Hyundai can position the HE1i just below the Rs 10 lakh mark, the crossover could become one of India’s most affordable EVs. However, such projections remain speculative at this stage. Hyundai aims to launch 26 new products by the end of FY2030 and of which six will be pure electric vehicles.

Part of the strategy also involves adapting existing nameplates. Discussions are reportedly in progress around battery-powered versions of the Grand i10 Nios and the Venue. Should the Nios EV get the green light, it would likely rival the Tiago EV on price and form factor. The Venue EV, meanwhile, would be entering an arena already packed with familiar names.
The second generation Venue is already being readied for launch this festive season and it will likely lend its underpinnings to the electric version. While that EV is expected to mirror the upcoming ICE variant in many aspects, its challenge will lie in contending with an already competitive compact electric SUV space against the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.

With Rs 20,000 crore earmarked for electric vehicle development in the country, a substantial portion of that output is also intended for export markets. Additionally, premium EVs from Hyundai’s global catalogue will continue to be offered in India, rounding off a dual-pronged approach that targets both volume-based and upmarket segments.
