Hyundai says the CLTC-certified range stands at 700 km between charges for the Elexio and it boasts latest features and technologies inside

Hyundai appears to be strengthening its zero-emission lineup in the world’s largest EV market, China, with a model built specifically for the region. The all-electric Elexio SUV, developed under the Beijing-Hyundai partnership, made its debut a couple of months ago and now pictures of its interior have been divulged and we certainly need to talk about it.

Developed with local preferences in mind, the Hyundai Elexio skips global branding cues like the Ioniq badge and instead introduces a new nameplate fostered for what Hyundai calls a must-fight place in its global roadmap. Just as every other global market, Hyundai’s EV does look distinctive inside and out amidst being more advanced as the Chinese market demands.

Earlier this year, grainy spy images offered a first glimpse of the model, leading to speculation about its positioning. These guesses were clarified in May, when the company officially revealed the Elexio as its first battery-electric SUV developed solely for China.
It borrows some exterior cues from Hyundai’s wider Ioniq range but is otherwise an independent effort with notable distinctions.

The all-important cabin comprises a huge 27-inch ultra slim screen that stretches across the dashboard, covering both the infotainment and front passenger zones. A compact digital display sits ahead of the driver, replacing traditional dials. The minimalist layout features almost no physical switches, a growing design direction in the Chinese EV space.

The Hyundai Elexio’s cabin features two wireless smartphone charging pads, a bi-tone colour scheme and a total of 29 different storage areas to emphasise its practicality. The brand is also expected to load it with regionally tuned driving assistance technologies. Underpinning the Elexio is the familiar E-GMP architecture from Hyundai Motor Group.

The front-wheel drive version gets a single 215 hp motor while the AWD variant adds a 98 hp unit at the rear, bringing total output to 312 hp. Fast charging is another draw as it can top up from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in just 27 minutes. Hyundai says the CLTC-certified range stands at 700 km between charges and the model’s prices will be revealed in the coming months.
