Highest List A Runs Scorers: Indian cricketing icon Virat Kohli has hit 16000 runs in his List A career, becoming the ninth cricketer in the history of the sport to reach that milestone. He is also the highest run scorer in List A among currently active cricketers.
‘List A’ cricket is a catch-all term for any ‘one-day’ cricket. Matches need to be 40-60 overs per side to be considered List A. These include One Day Internationals (ODIs) and domestic one-day competitions like India’s Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Having made his List A debut in 2006 for Delhi, the majority of cricket Kohli played in this format in his career was through ODI cricket for the Indian Cricket Team. Considered one of the greatest ODI batters of all time, the 37-year-old will now be making more appearances in domestic cricket, seeing he is only active in one international cricket format now.
Virat reached the 16000-run mark during an appearance in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Having retired from Tests and T20Is, the former Indian Cricket Team captain could now focus on playing more domestic cricket. He did so by playing the entire season of the VHT.
Virat made a return to domestic one-day cricket after 15 years, last playing the Vijay Hazare in 2010. Before the start of this season, Kohli had 15999 List A runs, needing only one to reach a new milestone. He did score that run and then scored some more.
When Kohli scored that first run against Andhra, he reached the milestone of 16000 runs in List A cricket. With that, he became the ninth batter in history to make as many runs in this format.
English legend Graham Gooch tops the list of most List A runs ever with 22211 across his 24-year-long career, followed by England batter Graeme Hick with 22059. Both of these men played far more domestic cricket than international, as was the norm in the 20th century.
Sachin Tendulkar, the highest run scorer in ODI history, is third on the list with 21999 in just 559 games. Most of these runs, 18426 to be exact, came in 463 ODIs. He also has the second-highest acreage in this top-ten list (45.54), after Kohli.
Speaking of Kohli, he too has scored most of his List A runs in ODIs. As the second-highest run scorer in one-day internationals, Kohli has made 14557 of his 16000+ List A runs in international cricket.
