Henry Nicholls is a New Zealand cricketer who represents the New Zealand national team and plays domestic first-class cricket for Canterbury. He has been the captain of New Zealand’s reserve A side since 2017. Nicholls was part of the New Zealand team that won the ICC World Test Championship in 2019–2021 and was also a member of the squad that finished runners-up at the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

In December 2015, Nicholls was named in New Zealand’s ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka. He made his ODI debut on 26 December 2015 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, his home ground for Canterbury. He scored 23 not out from 21 balls in that match as New Zealand won by seven wickets. He made his Test debut against Australia on 12 February 2016.

In April 2019, Nicholls was selected in New Zealand’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In the final, he was New Zealand’s top scorer with 55 runs. In November 2020, he was named in the New Zealand A team for practice matches against the touring West Indies side. In 2024, Nicholls was included in the ODI and T20I squads for New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka, but he only played in the ODI matches.

His first Test century came against South Africa at the Basin Reserve in March 2017. He made an unbeaten 145 against England in Auckland, helping New Zealand win the series. He also scored a Test century in Abu Dhabi in a 212-run partnership with Kane Williamson, which helped New Zealand win an away series in Pakistan. During the 2019 World Cup, he opened the batting and scored a crucial 55 in the final against England at Lord’s.
