Along with an expanded and refreshed product line-up, BMW plans to increase localisation to find further growth in India
BMW sold 17,271 cars in India last year, marking a year-over-year growth of 2,259 units or 15%. Aiming to continue the momentum, the company has planned a barrage of new launches this year. Hardeep Singh Brar, the President and CEO of BMW Group India, has announced that the company will introduce ten new BMW models this year. Six of the ten launches will be all-new models that don’t exist in the line-up at the moment, while the remaining four will be facelifted versions of existing models.
Brar did not delve into the specifics of the upcoming models, but we have a fair idea about some of the key launches, the first of which is likely to be the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase. We expect BMW to launch the i5 LWB in India sometime between April and June.
BMW is seeing strong demand for Long Wheelbase models in India and is updating its product line-up accordingly. The share of Long Wheelbase models in its sales increased from 29% in 2024 to 50% last year. To be more specific, 8,608 units of the 17,271 cars it sold last year were all Long Wheelbase models.

The i5 LWB will have a 110 mm longer wheelbase and likely feature a revised suspension setup that improves its ground clearance. While the i5’s knocked-down kits come from Germany, the i5 LWB’s knocked-down kits are likely to be sourced from China. Another new model we expect in the second quarter of the year is the facelifted version of the iX. The new iX features a sharper design and offers improved performance, more range, and faster charging.
BMW plans to relaunch the X6 in India around April this year. It will likely bring only the M60i xDrive mild-hybrid variant here. The X6 M60i xDrive features a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that produces 390 kW (523 hp) and 750 Nm of torque and an electric motor that develops 9 kW (12 hp)and 200 Nm of torque. The electric motor is integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission, which works with an all-wheel drive system to send drive to the wheels. The X6 M60i xDrive hits 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and achieves a top speed of 250 km/h.

Another new niche BMW model coming to India will be the BMW 4 Series Convertible. Set to compete with the Mercedes CLE, it will be available in the M440i xDrive mild-hybrid variant. It will feature a soft-top roof that can be opened or closed in 18 seconds while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h.
A 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine develops 288 kW (386 hp) and 540 Nm of torque and is assisted by an electric motor producing 9 kW (12 hp) and 200 Nm of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system work together to direct power to the wheels. The M440i xDrive Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and achieves a top speed of 250 km/h.
BMW will also work on increasing localisation to make its cars more competitive. Currently, the company has localised up to 50% of the parts, including engines, seats, axles, and tyres.
