BMW iX3 uses a 108.7 kWh cylindrical-cell battery with dual motors to produce a maximum power output of 469 hp and 645 Nm of peak torque
BMW has lifted the covers off the first series-production Neue Klasse vehicle (a line up of new generation BMWs), the all-electric iX3 which enters its second generation. At its heart is the sixth-gen eDrive technology – pairing a 108.7 kWh cylindrical-cell battery with dual motors to produce a maximum power output of 469 hp and 645 Nm of peak torque.
The system enables 0 to 100 kmph acceleration time in 4.9 seconds and boasts a top speed of 210 kmph while claimed range is rated up to 805 km on the WLTP cycle. Charging has been pushed to new limits as well as 400 kW DC fast charging can add 372 km in just ten minutes and a 10 to 80 per cent top-up takes only 21 minutes.
The setup also supports bidirectional functions such as Vehicle-to-Load, Vehicle-to-Home and even Vehicle-to-Grid applications. Dimensionally, the iX3 is 4,782 mm long, 1,895 mm wide and stands 1,635 mm tall but aerodynamics have been improved to deliver a drag coefficient of just 0.24. Boot capacity stands at 520 litres and is expandable to 1,750 litres with the rear seats folded while a 58-litre front trunk adds to the practicality.
The BMW iX3 has an upright front with vertically illuminated kidney grilles inspired by the 1960s Neue Klasse models. Its slim and wing-shaped headlights frame the front with a modern light signature. The side profile gets clean surfaces, flush door handles and squared body-coloured wheel arches. At the rear, split tail lights extend inward.
The cabin, designed specifically for EV packaging, is airy and spacious according to the brand with slimline seats, a wraparound instrument panel and a panoramic roof. Materials lean on recyclability including Econeer fabrics, marine plastics and secondary aluminium components. On the inside though, the spotlight falls on the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system.
It combines a full-width windscreen projection, a 3D head-up display and a free-cut central touchscreen driven by the new OS X. Physical buttons remain for essentials like wipers, mirrors and hazard controls while everything else is managed through touch, voice or the multifunction steering wheel. Over-the-air updates and app integration are baked in too along with the latest personal assistant and digital key.
On the chassis side, the “Heart of Joy” supercomputer coordinates drivetrain, braking and recuperation with unprecedented precision according to the German luxury brand – ensuring up to 98 per cent of deceleration is handled by regen. The result, BMW says, is much improved dynamics and smoother stopping characteristics.
Suspension hardware features iLink front geometry with a five-link rear setup which is supported by frequency-dependent dampers. Production of the iX3 will begin at BMW’s new Debrecen plant in Hungary later this year with European sales scheduled for spring 2026. The US launch follows in summer 2026 alongside a China-specific version built at BMW’s Shenyang facility.
The debut of this new model also indicates the roll out of Neue Klasse tech across 40 upcoming BMW launches by 2027. Considering the high demand for several vehicles within BMW’s India portfolio, we expect the iX3 to be available in the near future here as well.
