The last game of the Australia vs India T20I series was washed out before getting to the point where a result could be calculated. And that means that India won the series 2-1.

The fifth and final India vs Australia T20I was set to be played at the Brisbane Cricket Ground, aka The Gabba, today. It had been raining for a few days before the match in Brisbane, and so it was expected to pour today as well.

However, the match did start on time, as the home side won the toss and decided to bowl first in a stadium where the pitches are hard, providing fast bowlers with a lot of pace and bounce.

The Aussies came into this game with the same squad as the last match, which they lost by 48 runs. On the other hand, the Indian Cricket Team made one change, as Rinku Singh came in place of Tilak Varma.

The match started well for the Men in Blue, as 11 runs were scored in the first over, bowled by Ben Dwarshuis. Then, in the second, Xavier Bartlett conceded eight. It should be noted that for the whole time, clouds were looming over the ground, and some rain delay was expected.

The third over by Dwarshuis went for 16, as Shubman Gill fired four boundaries. Then Abhishek Sharma hit Nathan Ellis for a six in his first over, with India making 12 in the fourth.

The 50-run mark in this opening partnership came up in the fifth over, as India made 52 runs in 4.5 overs. At this point, the play was stopped 23 minutes after the match started due to lightning at 6:38 pm local time. A few minutes later, a severe weather warning was announced on the ground, and the fans were asked to take shelter.

At 7:39 pm local time, the rain stopped, but the covers did not come off. But then, a few minutes later, it started pouring again. And alas! At 8:50 pm local time (4:20 pm IST,) the match was abandoned.

Abhishek Sharma made a typical start by his standards, making 23 off 13, hitting one four and a six. But it was Shubman Gill who was the star of the show for the five overs India played, making 29 off 16, hitting six fours.

With this match being abandoned, the Indian Cricket Team won this series. After the first match was washed out, Australia won the second, then India rallied back to win the third and the fourth. And with a wash-off in the fifth, Suryakumar Yadav’s men won this series 2-1.

For being the highest run scorer in this series, making 163 runs in five games at an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 161.78, Abhishek Sharma was named the Player of the Series.

After this exciting Australia vs India tour, where the Aussies won the ODI series and the Men in Blue triumphed in the T20Is, both these teams have massive tours on their docket to round off the year.

Australia will host England for the Ashes, arguably the biggest and certainly the most fiery Test series in cricket. On the other hand, India will host the defending World Test Champions, South Africa, for two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is.
