With the next-gen model of the Chetak e-scooter, Bajaj is expected to offer a modern design and a slew of new features
Bajaj Auto has been consistently updating the Chetak since its launch, and the latest 35 Series was launched in December last year. The e-scooter is the only model in the brand’s EV line-up. Currently, Bajaj holds the second spot in the domestic electric two-wheeler sales with the Chetak. In the latest development, the new-gen model of the Chetak has been spotted testing for the first time.
While an exact launch timeline is not yet known, we expect the next-gen Chetak to go on sale sometime next year. Going by the spy shots, there seems to be a slew of changes to the overall package, however, the camouflage manages to hide some important details.
To begin with, the new model of the Chetak sports an updated LED tail lamp with brake light and turn indicators integrated into a single unit. Although the overall silhouette remains more or less the same as before, the tail section appears to be a bit different, with revised number plate positioning and a new tyre hugger.

The changes to the side panels are well hidden under the camouflage, and the grab handle seems to be retained from the current model. The seat is now flatter as it misses the small hump. Upfront, the indicators have been repositioned to the handlebar area, and the LED headlamp is the familiar unit, albeit with the new Chetak lettering.
Apart from this, we can also spot a new switchgear console and a new shape for the instrument cluster. The limited kit on the test prototype, including the missing keyless start-stop system, hints that this could be a mid-spec variant of the next-gen Chetak.

The test prototype sports a hub-mounted electric motor, and the battery pack seems to be positioned in the floorboard, much like the current model. Overall, the next-gen Bajaj Chetak will likely stick to the basics, with a gain in terms of design and equipment. It will likely continue to use the familiar 3.5 kWh battery pack, with a claimed range of around 150 kilometres on a single charge.
