Mahindra & Mahindra lost the second spot to Hyundai and was relegated to fourth position even behind Tata Motors in Aug 2025 sales
Mahindra & Mahindra has been pushed back to fourth position behind Hyundai and Tata in the domestic sales of Aug 2025. The homegrown automaker retailed a total of 39,399 units last month as compared to 43,277 units in Aug 2024, hence registering a YoY de-growth of 9 percent. The brand also faced a setback in MoM sales by 21 percent as it had managed to sell 49,871 units in July 2025. The Aug 2025 domestic sales data reveal that two of Mahindra’s popular models namely XUV 7OO and XUV 3XO witnessed a steep decline in volumes.
Looking at the model-wise sales breakup, Mahindra Scorpio led the pack with sales of 9,840 units in Aug 2025. However, despite being the highest-selling company model, it saw a YoY negative growth of 29 percent as the company had sold 13,787 units in Aug 2024. The Bolero continued its golden patch with volumes of 8,109 units last month against 6,494 units in Aug 2024. Hence, the rugged SUV recorded a YoY growth of 25 percent.
Mahindra Thar and Thar Roxx had a combined sales of 6,997 units in Aug 2025 which is quite high from the same month last year. The Thar Roxx was launched on Aug 15, 2024 while the deliveries started a few months later. The company had retailed 4,268 units of the Thar in Aug 2024 and thus, it witnessed a YoY growth of 64 percent.

The brand’s flagship model, the XUV 7OO, failed to deliver last month as sales numbers stood at 4,956 units as compared to 9,007 units in Aug 2024 with a YoY de-growth of 45 percent. The same fate was met by the XUV 3XO with volumes facing a sharp decline to 5,521 units in Aug 2025 from 9,000 units in Aug 2024. The YoY de-growth was recorded at 39 percent.
The all-new Born Electric SUVs namely BE 6 and XEV 9e had sales of 1,551 units and 2,313 units in Aug 2025. However, for the first time, the XUV 4OO sales fell to just double digits as the company managed volumes of merely 66 units in Aug 2025 as compared to 713 units sold during the same month last year. It saw a massive YoY de-growth of 91 percent.

Last but not the least, Mahindra Marazzo, expected to be phased out soon from the market, had sales of 46 units in Aug 2025 which is a huge jump from the 8 units retailed in Aug 2024. It had a scintillating YoY growth of 475 percent. However, since the MPV is counting its last days and dealers are clearing the existing stock with heavy discounts, these numbers make very little sense.
Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to introduce a plethora of new models in the coming months which includes 2025 Thar facelift, 2026 XUV 7OO facelift and XEV 7e 7-seater electric SUV among others. Hence, the launch of these models is likely to boost the sales numbers and help the brand recapture the second slot from Hyundai/Tata in the Indian market.
