Mahindra Vision S could give rise to the next-gen Scorpio N or a more compact sub-four-metre version; chances of an electric iteration cannot be ruled out
Mahindra used the Freedom NU event, held on the Independence Day, to pull the wraps off its Vision series of concepts – offering a glimpse into the company’s future SUVs. One of the highlights was the Vision S, joined on stage by the Vision X, Vision T and Vision SXT. Each concept previews a production model that will eventually slot into different segments of Mahindra’s lineup.
The NU_IQ monocoque platform will serve as the foundation for several upcoming SUVs with the Vision S concept being the most talked about. The “S” here may tie the model back to the Scorpio bloodline. What isn’t clear yet is whether this path leads to the next petrol-diesel Scorpio or if Mahindra is quietly preparing to debut an electrified version under the same badge.
Either way, the concept is being seen as the bridge between prototype and production within the Scorpio family. The homegrown manufacturer could bring in a more compact iteration of the Scorpio N based on the Vision S concept but nothing has been set on stone yet. Here we have showed you the concept in white exterior body colour which indeed elevates its muscular stance.
The styling grabs attention right away. It carries a more compact stance compared to the Scorpio N yet its upright build, tall pillars and squared-off frame instantly spark memories of the new Defender. The resemblance is most striking at the rear where the design feels retro but still modern and it will certainly be toned down in its production guise.
Up front, the concept stands out with its inverted L-shaped LED headlamps and stacked lighting elements flanking the Twin Peaks emblem on the grille. The bumper adds more flair with four LED units neatly tucked into square housings. Additional touches include side steps, flush-fitting smart door handles and rear lamps that mirror the SUV’s front light signature.
Completing the look are a dual-tone paint job, side-mounted jerry cans, chunky cladding, star-pattern 19-inch alloys and eye-catching red brake callipers. The back end is kitted out with a chunky bumper, a roof-mounted ladder and the classic tailgate spare wheel. Interestingly, a fuel filler cap is visible on the left – hinting at an ICE heart beneath the skin though Mahindra has confirmed the architecture is modular enough to support multiple powertrains.
It leaves the door open for an electric version somewhere down the line though an official nod hasn’t come yet. Even so, the Vision S stands as a clear signal of Mahindra’s intent to modernise its heritage models while still holding on to the core traits that built their reputation over the years.
