Shubham Gill Makes His Highest Test Score Vs ENG:Indian Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill has put up his highest score in Test cricket, making 147 runs against England in his first Test as the national team captain. Gill made 147 runs before getting out.
The first India vs England Test match out of five is currently underway at Headingley, Leeds. Today is Day 2 of the game, as India is still batting after the English won the toss and decided to bat first. This decision made by the Three Lions captain Ben Stokes at the toss is now looking like a bad one.
The Indians started their inning off well, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul giving the team a solid start. The two scored 91 runs together before Rahul edged the ball to the slip. An over later, Test debutant Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for a duck as the score fell to 92/2 right before lunch.

At No. 4, in walked Shubman Gill. The 25-year-old is not only an important batter in the side, but he is now also the permanent captain of the Test side. He, along with Jaiswal, forms the young batting core of the team. The two struck an amazing partnership that not only saved the Indian Cricket Team from collapse, but also saw both batters score their first tons on English soil.

While Yashasvi played cautiously, Gill looked to attack the underwhelming English bowling attack. Jaiswal scored his 50, and Shubman followed suit, then Jaiswal scored his fifth 100 in his 20th Test. His wicket soon after meant that the third-wicket partnership between Yashasvi and Shubman was worth 229 runs.
At the end of Day 1, Gill had scored his century, playing alongside Rishabh Pant. At the start of Day 2, the two senior batters kept the attack up. While Gill slowed down a bit, Pant kept the scoring pace up.
It was in the second session of the day, after Rishabh had already made his century, that Shubman Gill was dismissed by Shoaib Bashir, who had looked ordinary on this wicket and in conditions that were suited for batting.
In the 102nd over of the match, Bashir bowled a ball fuller and outside off-stump. Gill, looking to heave it over square leg for a six, instead mistimed the ball and was caught by Josh Tongue at the boundary, thus bringing an end to an incredible inning by the Indian Test captain.
Shubman Gill scored 147 runs in 227 deliveries. This was his highest total in a Test match, beating his previous best of 128. Not only that, but it is also his first Test hundred in SENA countries, and what an occasion to score a dominating ton.
Rishabh Pant lost his wicket soon after, becoming the third batter to score a 100 in this inning. The score is currently at 453/6 in the first India vs England Test match.
