Taking a step towards electrification, Toyota has introduced a hybrid powertrain option with the iconic Land Cruiser 300 Series. The new hybrid setup adds more power to the LC 300, making it the most powerful version to date. The Japanese carmaker has debuted the Land Cruiser 300 hybrid in some Middle East markets, and it is expected to go on sale in several international markets in the near future.

Under the hood, the LC 300 hybrid is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine paired with the single-motor parallel hybrid setup. The combined power output from the system stands at 457 hp and 790 Nm of peak torque. The electric motor is positioned between the engine and the LC300’s 10-speed automatic gearbox. This powertrain setup is shared with other Toyota and Lexus models using the familiar TNGA-F platform, including the Lexus LX 700h, Toyota Sequoia SUV and Tundra pickup truck.

The SUV comes with full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and a low range transfer case. The hybrid control system can switch the power between petrol engine and electric motor. The water wading capacity of the LC 300 hybrid stands at 700mm and the gearbox has been waterproofed to protect the electric motor.

Toyota is offering the LC 300 hybrid in two variants in the UAE, i.e. entry-level GR Sport and higher-spec VXR. The former gets 18-inch wheels with sporty design elements and off-road focused bumpers, while the latter features 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome detailing, a tweaked air intake design and a new lower front bumper. Other hybrid-specific changes include 457 TT badging on the sides, depicting the twin-turbo 457 horsepower and a prominent HEV badging on the tailgate, accompanied by a blue circle, highlighting the electrified powertrain.
