Within the next 1 year, the midsize SUV segment is expected to gain as many as 8 new models with ICE and electric powertrains
Within the next 12 months, India’s midsize SUV segment is gearing up for a flurry of launches with leading brands like Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Mahindra, Toyota, Renault and Nissan preparing new models to capture consumer attention. As competition intensifies, SUVs with varying powertrains are expected to arrive. Here we have listed them:
1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara:

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce its first fully electric car, the eVitara, in the coming months, which will be sold exclusively through Nexa dealerships. The EV will come with two battery options offering a range of more than 500 km on a single charge. Expect a tech-rich cabin featuring a large touchscreen, digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats and Level 2 ADAS technology.
2. Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV:

Toyota’s Urban Cruiser BEV, a sibling to the e Vitara, will also ride on the e Heartect platform and offer two battery options with comparable range. While it may differ slightly in dimensions, the feature set will remain largely the same and the SUV is expected to hit showrooms shortly after the e Vitara’s launch.

3. New Renault Duster:

Renault is set to reintroduce the Duster in India with a completely redesigned model – expected to launch in the first half of 2026. Built on the CMF-B+ modular platform, the new Duster will initially offer petrol engine options while a hybrid variant is likely to join the lineup later.
4. Nissan Tekton:

Renault is also planning to launch a brand new midsize SUV next year named Tekton. Like the next-generation Duster, it will be built on the CMF-B+ platform, sharing several mechanical components. The five-seater SUV is expected to act as a spiritual successor to the Terrano.

5&6. Mahindra XUV700 Facelift & XEV 7e:

Mahindra is preparing a mid-life refresh for the XUV700 which could launch in early 2026. The update will introduce subtle changes to the exterior, a revamped cabin and upgraded features while retaining the current 2.0‑litre petrol and 2.2‑litre diesel engines along with existing transmission choices. The XUV.e8 concept based XEV 7e is also in the pipeline and it could offer similar battery options as the XEV 9e and BE6.
7&8. New Tata Sierra ICE & EV:

Tata is gearing up to revive the iconic Sierra nameplate with multiple test mules recently spotted on Indian roads. The comeback will kick off with an all-electric version which is expected in the coming months, followed by petrol and diesel variants early next year.
