Tata is planning to expand its lineup of compact SUVs with new additions over the next 2-3 years and here we have explained them

Tata Motors is laying the groundwork for what could be one of its busiest product phases yet. Over the next few years, the carmaker plans to unleash 30 new models through new nameplates and thorough updates to familiar ones. The upcoming portfolio will give rise to new products across different segments and price brackets.

It is set to roll out seven entirely new nameplates. The line-up includes the much-anticipated return of the Sierra, the launch of the Avinya electric range and a compact SUV reportedly named Scarlet. While the full slate spans multiple categories, the spotlight is on the sub-four-metre SUVs which are expected to be key players to garner a larger chunk of volumes.

The homegrown manufacturer is reportedly working on the third generation Nexon – codenamed Garud internally. The new SUV is expected to ride on a heavily updated X1 platform with improvements in ride comfort and handling over the current model. Alongside the platform changes, the Nexon will also likely undergo a full redesign with refreshed exterior styling and an upgraded cabin.

The upcoming Nexon is expected to feature a more modern exterior while the cabin could see substantial improvements in materials and overall ergonomics. A Level 2 ADAS suite, an upgraded infotainment system, and a new instrument cluster are likely too. That said, Indian buyers may have to wait a couple of years at least before the next-gen SUV finally reaches showrooms.

In recent months, Tata’s Punch has been seen testing under heavy camouflage as a mid-life update is on the horizon. The micro SUV is expected to receive a sleeker and more modern exterior design along with upgraded features taking inspiration from its electric sibling.

The facelifted Punch seems to borrow several design and feature cues from the Punch EV. The updated petrol variant could hit showrooms before year-end while Tata is also said to be working on a refreshed Punch EV for 2026. The company is said to be developing a new compact SUV – reportedly codenamed Scarlet for the future.

Initial reports indicate it will take design inspiration from the upcoming Sierra featuring boxy proportions and tall pillars to maximise interior space. Positioned to compete in the rapidly expanding compact SUV segment, the Scarlet will also target high volume sales.
