Within the next 12-18 months, we expect new midsize ICE SUVs from Mahindra, Nissan, Renault, Tata and Kia to launch in India
The midsize SUV arena in India is on the cusp of a deep transformation with the next year and a half expected to bring in a heavy churn of products from multiple manufacturers. Mahindra, Nissan, Renault, Tata and Kia are plotting major moves – spanning from full-fledged platform overhauls to new-generation avatars of existing models. Here we got you covered on what is coming:
1. New Gen Tata Sierra
Tata is set to debut the all-new Sierra in an electric avatar first. It is expected to launch before the end of the current financial year. The EV will share several components and technologies with the Harrier EV. The internal combustion version will follow up featuring a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine alongside the 2.0-litre diesel already used across Tata’s SUV range.
2. New Gen Kia Seltos:
Spotted undergoing road tests on multiple occasions, the new generation Kia Seltos is expected to make its way to Indian showrooms sometime in 2026 but no official confirmation has been made yet. The upcoming iteration will bring in a comprehensive redesign on the outside while the cabin is also set to receive a major overhaul in terms of equipment and materials used. A hybrid powertrain is also speculated.

3. Mahindra XUV700 Facelift:
Mahindra has commenced development activities for the facelifted XUV700 which is expected to break cover in the first few months of 2026. The mechanical package is unlikely to see any major shake-ups as the familiar 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines are expected to be retained. Cosmetic tweaks to the exterior, subtle revisions inside the cabin and an expanded features list are believed to be part of the upcoming refresh.
4. New Gen Renault Duster:
Renault is gearing up to bring back the Duster nameplate in India though in a far more evolved avatar than before. Set to ride on the CMF-B+ platform – now being localised for domestic production – the new-gen Duster will be built alongside its Nissan counterpart. A hybrid powertrain is expected to be part of the package, making it a step up from its predecessor on both the performance and efficiency fronts.

5. Nissan Midsize SUV:
Nissan is preparing to launch four all-new models in India, spearheaded by a compact MPV that will share its underpinnings with the Renault Triber. Also in the pipeline is a midsize SUV which will effectively serve as a modern-day replacement for the discontinued Terrano. The SUV is slated to hit the market sometime in the early parts of next financial year.
