Maruti Suzuki is preparing for one of its strongest product pushes yet with a renewed focus on the booming SUV segment. Having tasted consistent success with its existing models, the brand is now ready to broaden its utility vehicle lineup. Several new SUV projects are already underway – highlighting Maruti’s intent to strengthen its foothold in one of the fastest-growing spaces in the Indian automotive market.

The automaker is working toward securing a foothold across all major SUV segments with as many as four new models currently in the pipeline. Each is being developed to appeal to a distinct price bracket and audience ensuring Maruti has a contender in every key category. Here’s a breakdown of what’s brewing behind the scenes:

1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara:

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its first fully electric vehicle, the e Vitara, expected to arrive at Nexa showrooms this December. Developed on the dedicated Heartect e platform, the e Vitara looks to combine modern features with strong safety credentials. Already available in select international markets, the EV will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility for India as well.

The upcoming e Vitara will be offered with two battery configurations – both compatible with fast-charging technology. The larger pack is expected to deliver a certified range of over 500 km per charge – placing it among the most efficient EVs in its segment. On the inside, Maruti is loading the SUV with a premium feature list – highlights include a large touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, fully digital driver display, etc.

2. 7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara:

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly exploring a three-row version of the Grand Vitara – focussed at buyers seeking extra space and a more premium appeal. The model would serve as a more upscale and family-oriented alternative taking on rivals like the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. Should the project get the green light, the extended Grand Vitara could be ready for launch within the next two years.

3. Maruti Suzuki Micro SUV:

Maruti Suzuki is said to be working on an all-new micro SUV – likely to debut sometime between late 2026 and early 2027. Positioned below the Brezza in the brand’s lineup, the upcoming model will go head-to-head with segment leaders like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. Among its key highlights could be Maruti’s next-generation in-house hybrid powertrain which is expected to deliver a fuel efficiency of over 35 kmpl.

4. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid:

Maruti Suzuki is believed to be working on a hybrid iteration of the Fronx which could adopt a version of the Smart Hybrid system currently offered on the export-spec Dzire. It could get more upmarket features like ADAS.
