Brands such as Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra and Kia are preparing to introduce new models in the compact electric SUV segment soon in India
The electric vehicle space in India is gearing up for a surge in action with several carmakers lining up their entries in the compact segment. Brands such as Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra and Kia are preparing to introduce new models that could significantly reshape the affordable end of the EV market.
Here’s a glimpse at what to expect from each of these automakers over the next 12-18 months:
1. Kia Syros Electric:

The battery-powered variant of the recently introduced Kia Syros which has already garnered positive attention is expected to hit the Indian market in 2026. The upcoming compact e-SUV may share a significant amount of its underpinnings and components with the Carens-based Clavis EV which is launching next month. The Syros EV will square off against established players such as the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV, upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and the XUV400.

2. Updated Tata Punch EV:
Among the country’s highest-selling electric vehicles, the Tata Punch EV is on track to receive a mid-lifecycle update – likely in the first quarter of 2026. The revised version is expected to gain styling tweaks that go in line with Tata’s latest design direction, similar to what has been seen on recent launches. Alongside the cosmetic revisions, feature additions are also likely and the refreshed model could benefit from enhancements to its driving range as well.
3. Mahindra XUV 3XO EV:

Already spotted on public roads on multiple occasions, the electric version of the XUV 3XO is expected to arrive positioned below the XUV 400 in Mahindra’s EV portfolio. While it will retain several traits from the internal combustion model, the battery and key components could be shared with the larger XUV 400. The exterior and interior, meanwhile, may see minor tweaks to distinguish the EV variant from its fossil-fuel sibling.
