However, the brand is ready to introduce multiple new cars and SUVs in the near future to expand its portfolio. It has been learnt that the Japanese automaker is likely to launch at least three new vehicles with strong hybrid tech in the coming 8-12 months in the domestic market. In this piece, we will talk about the upcoming Honda Cars in India.

Though the company’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV) in our country will be sold with a different nameplate and distinct styling. Honda Elevate EV will directly rival Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV and Maruti e-Vitara in the Indian market. The new EV will be a part of the ACE (Asian Compact Electric) project with more than 50 percent of production allocated for exports to other countries, including Japan. Though details are scarce at the moment regarding the battery pack and range, we expect Honda to reveal more in the coming months as we inch closer to the launch.
2. New-Gen Honda City Hybrid
Honda became the first auto brand in India to introduce a strong-hybrid powertrain when it launched the City e:HEV. Now, it has learnt that the company has already begun work on the new-gen model of the City sedan. To be based on the newly developed PF2 platform, the new-gen Honda City hybrid will have a higher degree of localisation as compared to the present model in order to achieve aggressive pricing.
The new-gen City will get a radical makeover in terms of design, cabin and features. Mechanically, it is likely to remain unchanged and carry the same strong hybrid powertrain setup with the naturally-aspirated 1.5L petrol engine, small battery pack and two electric motors. The new-gen City hybrid is expected to come out in the second half of 2027 when the more stringent CAFE norms kick in. The company says that it will be priced between Rs 15-30 lakh (ex-showroom).

It has been reported in the media that the new Honda 7-seater SUV will come equipped with a locally developed hybrid powertrain setup. In all likelihood, it will be offered with an upgraded version of the City e:HEV’s Atkinson strong hybrid setup which comprises of two electric motors, small battery and the naturally-aspirated 1.5L petrol engine. Being a self-charging system, it doesn’t require external charging and it keeps shuffling between EV, hybrid, and petrol modes automatically for maximum efficiency.
