Hyundai is expected to bring a hybrid powertrain to the upcoming Creta as part of its growing multi-powertrain strategy. In parallel, a new premium 7-seater SUV is said to be in the works, placed above the Alcazar in the lineup. The company is also evaluating the Palisade – its global flagship SUV – for a possible India entry, potentially outfitted with a hybrid setup. Here’s a closer look at all three developments:
1. Hyundai Palisade Hybrid:
Hyundai’s latest hybrid setup, first rolled out in the Palisade overseas, is expected to make its way to India by 2028. The system pairs a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a combined 334 hp and 460 Nm and its fuel economy is rated at just over 14 kmpl.
2. 7-Seater Hyundai Premium SUV:
Hyundai is reportedly working on a new SUV that could slot between the Alcazar and the Tucson in its product range. While an official timeline has not been confirmed, a market launch around 2027 is being speculated. It is expected to be produced at the Talegaon facility where preparations are already underway to commence production of the next-generation Venue before the end of the year.

Known internally by the codename Ni1i, the three-row vehicle might adopt a hybrid drivetrain. There is talk that Hyundai could modify its current 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine to suit hybrid duty. Although no official confirmation has surfaced, industry chatter suggests that both the next-generation Creta and Seltos might also embrace strong hybrid petrol configurations.
3. New-Gen Hyundai Creta:
Hyundai’s immediate focus lies on the new generation Venue which is anticipated to arrive in showrooms before the close of the year. In the longer term, early groundwork has also begun for the next-generation iteration of the Creta as well.

Codenamed SX3 internally, the next-gen Creta is expected to undergo a comprehensive redesign, both visually and structurally, by 2027. While that full model overhaul is still a few years out, Hyundai is also reportedly preparing a mid-cycle update for the Creta EV as well.
