Skoda and Volkswagen to amplify their premium car portfolio with new global models at the end of this year
Volkswagen Group’s mass-market brands Skoda and Volkswagen are planning two launches in the fourth quarter of the year. The upcoming Skoda and VW models will be among the company’s most expensive models, targeting affluent customers.
Between mid-October and early November, Skoda will launch the highly anticipated new Octavia RS in India, drawing driving enthusiasts to its showrooms. The high-performance sedan comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 195 kW (261 hp) and 370 Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential will be standard.
The new Skoda Octavia RS hits 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds, and flat out, it clocks an electronically limited 250 km/h. Skoda equips the top-of-the-line variant of the new Octavia with 340 x 30 mm (front) and 310 x 22 mm (rear) ventilated disc brakes for optimal braking force.

Imported as a CBU from Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic, the new Skoda Octavia RS will be a pricey affair. It will be launched in a limited volume and likely be priced close to 55 lakh rupees (ex-showroom).
Between mid-November and December, Volkswagen will likely launch the Tayron, the successor to the Tiguan Allspace. The latter will be a more significant product for the company compared to the former, which it imported as a CBU and discontinued in just about one and a half years. It plans to import CKD kits of the Tayron from Wolfsburg, Germany, and assemble them in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

The VW Tayron is 4,792 mm long, 1,853 mm wide, and up to 1,668 mm tall, and it has a 2,790 mm wheelbase. Internationally, Volkswagen offers the Tayron in five- and seven-seat versions, but in India, it may only launch the latter. The three-row configuration has 345 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,905 litres by folding all rear seats.
Volkswagen will likely offer the Tayron in India only with a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine tuned to produce 150 kW (201 hp) and 320 Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system should also be standard.
The company may equip the Tayron in India with features like 18-inch alloy wheels, a kick-activated tailgate, power front seats with ventilation and massage functions, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 45-watt USB-C ports, and nine airbags. We expect it to price the upcoming SUV around 45 lakh (ex-showroom).
