Google employees have developed a crowdsourced internal document to collectively track the company’s latest round of job cuts, revealing layoffs across multiple teams including Cloud, advertising, and Trust & Safety divisions, Business Insider reports.

The collaborative spreadsheet, compiled from internal memos and employee testimonies, has become a crucial information-sharing tool as workers attempt to understand the scope and impact of the cuts. According to Business Insider’s review of the document, fewer than 200 roles have been affected in total.

The employee-created tracker identifies several teams notified of cuts this week, including Google’s ad sales team for the Americas Large Customer Sales group, which handles major advertising clients. While specific numbers remain unclear for most teams, the document confirms at least 25 people were cut from the Bard EngProd team, which supported the AI product now rebranded as Gemini.

The internal document also reveals cuts across multiple Google Cloud units, including the Threat Intelligence Group, Scaled Customer Engineering, Google Cloud Platform Support, Go-To-Market, and Looker groups.

This isn’t the first time Google employees have used collaborative documents to share sensitive workplace information. Business Insider notes that Googlers have previously created similar spreadsheets to track salary information across different levels and locations. The practice extends beyond Google, with employees at other tech companies like Amazon developing comparable documents to monitor layoffs.

According to the report, employees indicate these cuts represent part of Google’s ongoing strategy of rolling targeted reductions over recent months, rather than the large-scale layoffs implemented in January 2023. A Google spokesperson confirmed the company is making changes “to operate more efficiently, remove layers, and ensure they are set up for long-term success.”
