Here we have explained about the 10 upcoming compact SUVs from brands like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Kia and Volkswagen in India
The compact SUV segment will see plenty of action over the next 2 to 3 years in India as manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Kia and VW will get in the act with models utilising IC-engined, hybrid and electric propulsions. Here we have listed the possible new arrivals:
1&2. Tata Punch Facelift & Next-Gen Nexon:
Tata Motors has been spotted testing the facelifted Punch multiple times in recent weeks and it could go on sale soon. Internally codenamed Garud, the third generation Nexon is said to be under development for launch in 2027, based on the heavily reworked version of the X1 architecture.
3. Hyundai Compact EV:
The first made-in-India compact SUV from Hyundai will be introduced next year and it will sit below the Creta Electric. It will feature two battery options and will take on the likes of Tata Punch EV, Nexon EV and others. Expect it to draw styling influence from the global Inster.

4. Tata Scarlet:
As part of consolidating its compact SUV portfolio which already comprises the Punch and Nexon in ICE and electric guises, Tata will bring in a new nameplate in the form of Scarlet. It is expected to take heavy inspiration from the new-gen Curvv set to go on sale next month. The engine and transmission options could be shared with the Nexon.
5. Kia Syros EV:
The Kia Syros ICE could make way for an electric iteration in 2026 and it could use two battery packs with a claimed range going over 400 km between charges. Elsewhere, the features list and other bits will remain similar to that of the IC-engined sibling.

6. Maruti Suzuki Micro SUV:
Reports indicate that Maruti Suzuki could be developing a micro SUV to take on Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. It will likely be powered by an in-house developed strong hybrid system to give it a huge advantage over rivals. However, it could still be a couple of years away.
7, 8 & 9. Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, Vision X & Vision S:
Recently, Mahindra unveiled four new concepts that will sit on the NU_IQ platform from 2027. Amongst them, the Vision S based baby Scorpio could be the first to arrive while the Vision X could spawn a compact crossover. We already showed you spy images of the XUV 3XO derived compact SUV which could be launched next year, positioned below the XUV400.
10. Volkswagen Terra:
The Skoda Kylaq-based Volkswagen compact SUV could be christened the Terra and it will be underpinned by the heavily localised MQ A0 IN platform. The five-seater will likely be equipped with a 1.0L turbo petrol engine, mated to either a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission option.
